The 2015-2016 indoor track season has been a successful year for Wilde Lake. Under the guidance of Coach Chris Brewington and Coach Whitey Bass, three athletes from the Lake placed first in their respective events: Christian Saulsbury in the boys preliminary 55 meter dash, Jamila Brown in the girl’s 300 meter sprint, and Deanna Yancey in the high jump.

“Our coaches are great at encouraging each and every one of their runners,” said sophomore runner Kareem Press, “They do a lot to bring out our natural talent. Our first place winners are all very talented athletes. It’s no surprise they were able to succeed in states.”

Wilde Lake placed 10th out of 32 schools in the state, scoring 18 points total in the competition.

According to several runners, the track team has been working hard, as shown by junior TJ Lyles, the runner for the 55 meter hurdles who was able to place 4th in states.

“I’ve been staying after practice; working on my form and my start. I’m aiming to get a track scholarship and run in college,” said Lyles. “It’s our perseverance and talent with hard work that allowed us to succeed at states.”

With the outdoor season coming up, the team is looking forward to seeing what more they will be able to accomplish.
