In Mr. Michael Brown’s first year at Wilde Lake, he is prioritizing listening to the staff and students.
Mr. Brown began his career as a special education teacher in Baltimore City. After over two decades in Baltimore City, Mr. Brown transferred to Winters Mill High School in Carroll County, where he served as principal for six years.
In addition to his background as an educator, Mr. Brown played football at Bowie State and Shepherd University.
According to superintendent Mr. Bill Barnes, Mr. Brown is stepping into his new position as the principal of Wilde Lake with experience and passion.
“Mr. Brown’s experience as a principal and his engagement as president of the Maryland State Association of Secondary School Principals stood out to me as evidence of his commitment to continuous professional growth,” said Mr. Barnes. “His passion for supporting students and families in the Wilde Lake community made him a perfect fit.”
Mr. Brown supported the staff by holding a Meet and Greet. Ms. Teri Lienhard was able to meet and discuss the gold room with him.
“Mr. Brown was very receptive, warm, and friendly. He wanted to hear more and asked questions about the gold room,” she said.
Mr. Brown also listens to students. He started a principal advisory committee “made up of a multitude of students with different ideas” to share his visions about the school and receive direct input from students.
Senior Lauren Kim attended the committee meeting and says Mr. Brown “was very open for discussion.”
Senior Zander Pratt also attended the meeting and says they were able to share their concerns about bathrooms, drug use, and the cafeteria freely with Mr. Brown.
“Mr. Brown took into consideration all of our concerns and he definitely already has plans for some of the concerns we shared,” said Zander.
