Gathered on the bleachers in a sea of green, the senior class cheered as they celebrated their third homecoming week win.
Two years ago, the class of 2025 secured their first homecoming win as sophomores. As juniors, they defended their title. The now seniors have continued the tradition by securing their third and final win during the 2024 action-packed homecoming week.
At the beginning of the pep rally, students repped their clubs and fall sports with pride by running down the field with their signs held high. The cheer team, marching band, and color guard brought the energy by performing “The Fight Song” with powerful enthusiasm.
When the performances ended, it was time for the games to begin. The Wrap the Mummy game consisted of each class trying to wrap a classmate with a roll of toilet paper. The sophomore class dominated the game, with the freshmen snagging a close second. According to sophomore Reese Roca, her class was feeling the energy from the win.
“It was a deserved [win],” Reese said. “The sophomore class was really hyped.”
The step team wowed the crowd with their energetic routine and students cheered them on from the stands.
Following the step team, students from each class pushed through the fall sports Relay Race. After a close back and forth with the sophomores, the seniors grasped a win. Terry Larose and Chris Hagan, members of the senior relay race team, said they used teamwork and support from others to secure the win.
“Even when we dropped the soccer ball, we came back and persevered,” said Chris. “The cheers from the crowd brought so much energy to the team.”
Dance team leaped through the air during their performance, creating amazing formations and waves of their shining green uniforms across the field.
Finally, the most awaited part of the pep rally had arrived: Tug of War. Each class competed in a strength competition, pulling the rope to their team’s side.
In the championship match, the seniors faced the juniors. The crowd roared with anticipation. The juniors had fallen to the ground as the senior class pulled their last win.
The stands went quiet as the winners of the pep rally were announced. The senior class jumped to their feet as they heard they were one step closer to securing their third, and final homecoming win.
On Saturday night, the seniors’ victory overall was confirmed after snagging first place in the clothing drive, pep rally, and parade.
Senior class president James Shidle is “over the moon” about the amount of spirit expressed by the senior class during homecoming week.
“We’re the smallest class at Wilde Lake, but we have the most pep, and I’m proud of it,” he said.
