Dr. Tushar Sura is back at Wilde Lake as a long term sub after retiring from teaching last spring. Dr. Sura retired in Spring of 2025 due to family health reasons; however, he was not gone for long.
“He’s like Tom Brady. He retired for like a month or two and then came back just to run it all again,” said senior Oman Speaks.
Earlier this year, Dr. Sura had a long-term sub job at Mount Hebron High School where he taught Biology. After hearing Ms. Thacker was in need of a long term sub, Dr. Sura decided to return to the Lake. He was excited to return “to a familiar environment, reconnecting with colleagues and former students, and feeling the energy of the chemistry classroom once again,” says Dr. Sura.
Dr. Sura’s career spans more than just teaching. He also spent time doing research and entrepreneuring. To further explore his passion for science, he transitioned into teaching with his belief that a strong K-12 education is essential for students.
Former students are very excited for Dr. Sura’s return to Wilde Lake. Junior Nick Solpietro explains that Dr. Sura is “clearly very excited when he comes to class.” Nick believes he came back to long-term sub “just because he loves science and wants to impart his knowledge on us.”
Building relationships with students, families, and siblings is one of Dr. Sura’s favorite memories from Wilde Lake.
Senior Oman Speaks recounts the ways Dr. Sura shares his wisdom. “If I asked Dr. Sura, ‘Why is water wet?’ He’ll go into five minutes of just breaking down the chemical structure of water,” said Oman.
Aside from teaching, Dr. Sura sponsored both the Academic and Robotics club. He says these clubs “broadened [his] engagement with students beyond traditional instruction.”
Along with the students and clubs, Dr. Sura explains that his colleagues were a large part of his return.
“Equally important were the strong, supportive relationships with colleagues, standing together through challenges and celebrations, which created lasting memories and made Wilde Lake feel like home,” said Dr. Sura.
As the Lake Legend Dr. Sura returns, his teaching journey is not one to forget.
“My journey as an educator has been one of mutual learning, resilience, and growth, shaped by interdisciplinary experiences and a deep respect for student curiosity and creativity,” he said.
Upon his return, he hopes to experience these same joys of education as he did before. Continuing to teach and inspire young students in the ever evolving world of science.
Welcome back to Wilde Lake, Dr. Sura!
