As students continue the 2026 school year at Wilde Lake there are always things changing. One of the latest changes that some of our students and teachers are still adjusting to is the departure of former Biology teacher Brittany Franckowiak who was promoted mid-year to be the newest Assistant Principal at Guilford Park High School.
Franckowiak spent the last 14.5 years as a teacher here at the Lake, which shaped her into the role model she is to both students and teachers. As she takes on this new position as an Assistant Principal she is still adjusting to new things like “not having a classroom space or any sort of lesson plan.”
Franckowiak is still working to get used to things changing on the fly rather than sticking to a routine schedule in a “teaching setting.” However, there are many things that are still the same for her which make the job easier with such a sudden change, as she is still working with young people in an educational setting.
With Franckowiak getting a promotion in the middle of the 2025-26 school year, she knew she had to take this opportunity, as it is a big accomplishment and something to be proud of.
With Franckowiak leaving the Biology department, administration needed somebody to quickly fill her role. Mr. Zachary Marshall came to the Lake as a Towson Graduate fresh out of college. He is super excited to take on this role and begin his first few years of teaching.
Current Biology student Ella Nester says that adjusting “was a little bit rough at the start because we were used to a routine,” but in the end, Mr. Marshall and Franckowiak made it a smooth transition to continue to support their students in their learning.
As she leaves the Lake, something Franckowiak wants her former students and colleagues to know is that she “carries a lot of gratitude from her experiences” and is “thankful for the people who make Wilde Lake feel like such a safe space.”
Congratulations Franckowiak on this promotion and good luck with your amazing opportunity. We all hope this change continues to show students how great of an educator you are.
