Mr. Johnson is the new science teacher at Wilde Lake, teaching chemistry. He first worked at a chemistry lab, which he said was boring. He then worked in pharmaceutical sales. He first got the idea to be a teacher from his mother, who suggested the career to him.
“I’ve always had a desire to help people,” says Mr. Johnson, who started teaching 28 years ago! He wasn’t sure about being a teacher during his first year and said that it was kind of rough. But as he gained more experience, he said that he “loved the connection [he] had with young people.” He thinks of the job as more than teaching science.
Outside of teaching, he has a handful of passions. He is a father, a serial entrepreneur, has worked in music for 20 years, and did tours while in college. He also produced music and ran a record label in Atlanta. His music has made it onto TV shows at times.
When asked what he’d be if he were an animal, he said he would be an eagle because eagles are the top predators in their environment and are also able to fly and view everything from above. He talked about an experience he had with a huge eagle he saw in Delaware. When he tried to approach the eagle, it saw him from around 200 yards away and flew off.
As a closing note, he advises students to stay locked in while also appreciating these years, as they go by really fast, and to not rush to get into adult life.
