Walking through the doors of Wilde Lake High School for the first time ever, Mr. Dominguez has already enhanced his passion for being a teacher. Coming from Frederick County High School and attending Towson University, Howard County hits really close to home, which is one of the things he strongly values. Aside from math, Mr. Dominguez loves to fill his free time with friends, traveling, and exploring different types of food while also continuing to complete his master’s degree. With this being the first school he has ever taught at, he says, “Everybody is so welcoming,” and he loves it.
One of his favorite things about the community around the Lake is the diversity. He has always been in a community with many different backgrounds, “which made Wilde Lake feel right at home.” One thing Mr. Dominguez considers important here is providing the right support for his bilingual students. He mentions that “math is a great subject and place which can bring people of many different backgrounds together” in countless ways. He thought this was a great thing to bring to Wilde Lake “due to the diversity of each and every student.”
Mr. Dominguez also values empathy within his classroom space. He thinks it is very important for a teacher to understand where his students are coming from, and equally for his students to understand where he may be coming from on the teaching side of things. He believes “building an outside relationship with each student is very important for each individual’s development.” Mr. Dominguez brings a lot of energy and values to the Lake, which makes us so lucky to have him on our math team.
