The Boys’ Varsity soccer team secured the County Championship win after a close game against the Glenelg Gladiators on October 21.
Previously this season, the boys’ soccer team lost to Glenelg 0-3. Wilde Lake and Glenelg Boys’ soccer had the best records in Howard County, so when the County Championship game arrived, it was time for a rematch.
Wilde Lake was down 0-1, but Caiden Richard managed to score a goal during the second half. With 11 minutes left in the game, senior Evan Figueroa scored the game winning goal, putting the Wildecats up 2-1 and securing the title of County Champs.
“Words can’t describe how I feel,” said Evan. “It was an incredible win.” Evan says they took “one game at a time” to secure this win.
In playoffs, the team defeated Hammond 4-1, but fell to Centennial in Regional Semifinals during overtime.
