Lacrosse Player Minjee Yi Signs to Longwood University
For Minjee Yi, lacrosse brings freedom and opportunity.
Minjee committed to Longwood University in the winter of her junior year. Through her college search, Minjee looked
for a school that combined her love for academics and love for sports. Minjee will be majoring in biology at Longwood. Committing to Longwood was not a difficult choice for Minjee. “When I got the offer, I was so happy because I knew I wanted to go there as soon as I got it,” said Minjee.
“I love the coaches, the team, and just the opportunity to study what I want and still play lacrosse.”
As a key step in her recruiting process, Minjee had the honor of being invited to and attending multiple Apex Showcases. These shows are interactive recruiting experiences where invited athletes receive coaching and instruction from D1 and D3 colleges.
Minjee also attributes part of her success to the support she has received at Wilde Lake from her teammates and coach. “I was able to find such a good community of people who want me to succeed and leadership-wise, I’ve had so many opportunities here that would be hard to find anywhere else,” said Minjee.
Throughout her high school career, Minjee played on the varsity lacrosse team and has served as captain. Minjee’s leadership within the sport is recognized by her teammates, such as seniorCassy Montgomery. “I couldn’t ask for a better teammate,” said Cassy. “When I get frustrated or overthink on the field, she’s always there to help me look at the bigger picture and lock into the moment.”
Minjee believes that dedication to the sport and being a team player are the keys to being a successful athlete. “Play for each other, not just yourself. Showing up for your team, even when you don’t want to, that makes a good player,” she said.
