Mr. Townsend used to be an English teacher. However, he is now a GT Resource teacher. Mr. Townsend loved his time as an English teacher, teaching journalism for 15 years. But because of the long time he spent teaching English, he decided to switch things up and take part in being a GT Resource teacher. “I think change is good in a job. It gives you a new perspective, and sometimes when you’re switching things up, it kind of keeps you on your toes and helps you learn something new, and I like to learn new things.”
In this new job, he teaches many things. “As a GT Resource teacher, I teach Independent Research, and I teach the Intern and Mentoring Program. I also can teach all Advanced Research classes in the county in two months.” In these classes, he helps and teaches students with independent research projects, guiding them through the research process, with each and every project being different.
Originally an English teacher for 20 years, GT Resource is new to Mr. Townsend, as well as the content in it. He’s used to certain concepts like reading and writing, but there’s still a lot more for him to explore in the field, and he learns as he goes.
Mr. Townsend values the relationships he has with his students and holds them to high expectations because he cares about them and trusts that they can go far, especially when working on research assignments that can develop into skilled presentations with the right attitude.
